Protein Identification and Protein Characterization
Protein Identification
We perform:
Excision of protein gel bands, digestion of proteins with trypsin and analysis
by mass spectrometry.
Two types of mass spectrometric analysis are available:
A. Acquisition of a peptide mass fingerprint and automated peptide fragmentation
of up to five peptides per protein. This is accomplished with ABIs 4700
MALDI TOF/TOF instrument.
(Note that the price quote for this service is
a flat rate for up to 48 proteins analyzed from a single submission, which may
include multiple gels.)
B. De novo amino acid sequencing of peptides. This is accomplished with
ABIs Q-star pulsar mass spectrometer with a nanospray ionization source.
Protein Characterization
Phosphorylation
site analysis
>Determination of molecular mass
>Confirmation of protein sequence
>Characterization of protein modifications. (E.g. protein phosphorylation)
Recombinant Protein Characterization
A.
Recombinant Protein Characterization by Mass
Spectrometry
-Confirmation of protein identity can be useful for antibody production, purification,
or further characterization.
B.
Recombinant Protein Characterization by N-Terminal
Edman Sequencing
-We can use Edman sequencing to determine the N-terminal sequence of recombinant
proteins.
