Guidelines for Sample Submission
We accept protein samples in the following
formats:
A. In liquid form
B. In wet or dried polyacrylamide gels. (Wet gels can be submitted in gel-destain
or in water).
We require the following information
for each sample submission:
1) A gel containing the proteins along with a printed
image of the gel indicating what protein spots are to be sequenced. They MUST
be numbered sequentially.
2.) Indication of what species the proteins are from and if the proteins have
been modified by you.
Click here for guidance on selecting bands to be sequenced!
Gel electrophoresis Guidelines
1) Always use gloves for all phases of sample handling
to avoid keratin introduction. Keep gels covered with plastic wrap.
2) Gel thickness should not exceed 1 mm. This is very important! Large amounts
of gel inhibits protein identification.
3) Use the Haystead lab protocol for silver staining gels. This method is compatible
with mass spectrometry. The method can be found here: Haystead
lab silver stain protocol.
4) When loading samples on gels, skip every other lane to allow space for sample
excision and to avoid cross contamination. If necessary, multiple (2 or 3) bands
can be combined for a single protein.
Getting Your Sample To Us
When your sample is ready bring it to LSRC Rm C119
